A Young Mum 's Journey from Fat to Fit..

R1 W6

Week 6 Progress Pic!!

Biggest differences I can see in myself are definitely my thighs/butt starting to get some definition, and my ‘hourglass’ is getting more defined too.
If you look *really* close, you can see my abs trying so hard to bust through those last few layers of fluffy, but they may need to wait until Wk 12.

Can’t believe I’m at the halfway mark for this challenge – it feels like its just flown by!

Here’s the comparisons from when I started in week 1, and now πŸ˜€

R1 W1 & 6 Compare

This week started pretty emotionally, as I thought my Monday session would be my last, as due to family issues I was now without a babysitter.Β Thank goodness for friends, sometimes!
And even though now all was well in the world, I still only got to 2 sessions due to freakin’ RAIN! Come ON!

Monday – Run Club to start. brought my time down by 8secs! Progress in cardio – HORRAY!
At this rate, I may even stand a chance when the zombies come!
Then lower body endurance with Alex, including step ups onto a bench (not a step!) and lifted lunges .. I am way to uncoordinated for some of the things we do, but I’m sure I provide great entertainment!
Finished off with upper body with Karina. Tried Plyometric pushups for the first time, and managed 25 before returning to normal ones as I just didnt have the strength to do all 50!

Wednesday was our 2nd attempt at Death by Cardio. I first did this challenge in WEEK 1 Β and got 25m flat.
Well, 5 weeks later I managed it in 21m 39s! Almost 4m off my original time! I was so stoked, definitely my biggest motivator this week, since weigh ins didn’t go so well 😦

Friday we were rained out, and Saturday I did attend, but the trainer never appeared. Apparently he sent a group message, but 12 of us never got it, so we all stood around like idiots for half an hour in the rain before deciding to go home.

Week 6 = Progress Photo and the half way mark! Stay tuned πŸ™‚

Week 5 – Weigh In

20130228-223008.jpg

Week 5 Weigh In!

Well, what can I say except you are what you eat? You eat crap, you’ll gain fat. It’s that simple.
And after eating McDonalds 3 times last week, what rights do I have to complain that I’ve gained kgs?!

Measurement down a tad though, totalling an overall loss of 23cm!

Back on the clean eating horse this week so I don’t embarrass myself further in a fortnight – embarrassment is so demotivating 😦

Here’s the journey so far in numbers:

20130228-223706.jpg

Another week I only made 2 sessions, but this time due to illness (I can’t win, can I?!)

So after recovering Monday from food poisoning, it was back into it on Wednesday with the first Beat the Clock challenge.

I had 30minutes.
And in that 30 minutes I had to do as much as I could of the following:
(Lvl 1) 50 crunches/200m run
50 jumping squats/200m run
50 push-ups/200m run
50 dips/200m run
(Lvl 2) 75 crunches/200m run
75 jumping squats/200m run
75 push-ups/200m run
75 dips/200m run
(Lvl 3) 100 crunches/200m run
100 jumping squats/200m run
100 push-ups/200m run
100 dips/200m run

.. I made it all the way up to 75 dips, leaving me with a score of Lvl2/4. I didn’t think I’d make it past the first level to be honest.
I don’t know if I simply doubt myself too much, or if I’m just out to prove a point to myself when it comes time, but I always seem to do a lot better at each challenge then I think I will.

Friday was a cardio boxing session. BOXING! HELL YEAH!
Let me at ‘dem bitches with my gloves – HA!
In all seriousness though, this has to be the first session I looked forward to the whole week!
How can you not love it?!
How about when you’re half way through your uppercut reps and your arms feel like theyre gonna fall off!

Still too much fun for an hour though!

On the clean eating side of things I fell off the bandwagon this week with a loud ‘thud’ and the reality check that what I eat in secret the world will see on my ass 😦
I can give the usual excuse of having no time, knowing full well if I’d just pulled my finger out and prepped on Sunday I would’ve avoided a very embarrassing food diary this week!

The truth will show at weigh ins on Monday I’m certain.
Oh well, back on that horse I say!

ABBBC Wk 3 WrapUp

I know I’m saying this every week but WOW! What a WEEK!

Every week I see the schedule and honestly start to doubt whether I’m cut out for this. I don’t have the cardio, or the endurance, or the upper body strength..

And every week I do it.

I may not do it in as quick a time as anyone else, I may not do as good a job at running or squatting etc as everyone else.
I am doing it, however. To the best of MY ability.
I’m giving it everything I’ve got and I’m breaking past mental and physical barriers I could only dream of doing.
My self confidence is starting to build again, too – and rapidly.

Only got in 2 sessions *again* this week, and it’s starting to get me quite down. I have all these goals and dreams, and the only thing standing in my way now is the sudden uncooperative attitude from the mother unit.
With 3 toddlers, I rely solely on her to mind them while I train (they are still in bed when I get home most mornings anyway). And if she isn’t in the mood, or forgets her alarm, or whatever, I miss out on a session. It is so incredibly frustrating and I had a good cry over it on Friday after missing training.

So here was my week in a nutshell:

Monday was the Jekyll & Hyde challenge.
Jekyll was Cardio. Hyde was Endurance.
Basically, partnered up, one partner would do cardio, the other endurance, then you’d swap. Hyde was required to do as many reps as they could for as long as it took Jekyll to finish their circuit.
My poor partner, right? Right! But she got her revenge – she was just as ‘inexperienced’ as me in cardio (because saying she sucked as bad as I did is kinda harsh haha)

First level was 4 laps around the 400m track while your partner did push-ups (any range) with no breaks.
Second level was 3 laps of a sprint across the track, then jog the half lap back around while your partner did squats (again no breaks).
Third level was 3x burpees, sprint to centre of track, 3x burpees and sprint back a total of 3 times while your partner did crunches with a 10sec break every set of 20.

Wednesday was another fitness challenge named ‘The Punisher’.
Don’t worry – its everything it says it is!!

Remembering that I’m timed for these challenges, can you guess what time I managed to pull off for the following:
60 lunges – 200m run
40 lunges – 200m run
20 lunges – 400m run
60 squats – 200m run
40 squats – 200m run
20 squats – 400m run
60 push-ups – 200m run
40 push-ups – 200m run
20 push-ups – 400m run
60 dips – 200m run
40 dips – 200m run
20 dips – 400m run

Take a guess?
39min 30secs, baby! Yeah!
This was one challenge I went in fearing, doubted myself through it the entire time, and was astonished when i completed it.
For someone who’s spent years considering changing the channel on the remote appropriate exercise, I think I did pretty freakin’ well!

Bring on week 4 – which means i am 1/3 way through this challenge!

Week 3 – Weigh In

20130211-093038.jpg

Week 3 Weigh Ins!

Not a *huge* difference stats wise. This may be because Wk 1 was done before a PM session and Wk 3 was at the end of an AM session.
Will be more accurate from now on as I will weigh in same time every time now (AM).

Lost 2.7kg in 2 weeks – stoked to be under the 80kg mark in God knows how long!!

Biggest progress obviously in the measurements – 5 off my hips – HORRAY!!

Here’s to another 2 weeks of losing cm’s as i continue to have my butt whipped πŸ™‚

ABBBC Wk 2 WrapUp

Week 2 – Wow! I used muscles I didn’t even know I had!!
Only 2 sessions again this week due to family difficulties.
And I got my ABBBC training singlet 😊

Tuesday was Run Club and Lower Body Endurance.

Run Club is basically a cardio builder. This week we started at 2 laps of the 400m track. And every fortnight
we will add another lap.
I surprised myself by managing to jog a whole lap before having to drop to a 10m walk/50m jog combo for the second lap.
I’m interested to see just how my cardio is improving, and Run Club will probably be the best way to judge my progress.

Lower body endurance left me with jelly legs!
First drill was to run up a hill, 10 squats where our bum had to hit the low barrier, jog back down the hill. Repeat 5 times.
Second drill was to jog to the first cone, 10 squats, jog back. Repeat for each subsequent cone at a further distance (4 cones total).
Third drill was walking lunges up the hill, 10 lunges on each leg with our leg up on the barrier, jog back. Repeat 5 times.
Fourth drill was walking lunges (flat surface) for 15m, sprint to the first cone, jog back. Repeat for each subsequent cone at a further distance (4 cones total).

Then Thursday came along, bringing the Fitness Testing with it.

Starting off with a Beep Test, I managed a score of Level 2/7.
I haven’t done a beep test since 10th grade, which was about 8 years ago! Still not a fan of it!

Then the endurance testing. Basically sets of 50 with increasing difficulty. That level had to be completed to move on to the next.

PUSH-UPS:
Lvl 1 was on knees, any range. Completed!
Lvl 2 was on knees, lowest range. Our boobs had to touch our partners fist resting below us. First time in a long time I wished I had bigger boobs so I didn’t have to drop as low!! But I competed that one too πŸ™‚
Lvl 3 was up on our toes, any range. No where near the upper body strength for that yet, leaving me with a final score of Lvl 3/10 (meaning I did 10/50 of that level)

ABS: (Definitely my strong point surprisingly!)
Lvl 1 was sit ups, fingers to knees. Completed!
Lvl 2 was sit ups, elbows to knees. Completed!
Lvl 3 was a Plank for 60sec. Completed!
Lvl 4 was sit ups, arms crossed over chest, elbows to knees, feet flat. Completed!
Lvl 5 was a 3min Plank. I held it for 90secs, leaving me with a final score of Lvl 4/50.

SQUATS:
Lvl 1 was shoulder width, 90degrees, any range. Completed!
Lvl 2 was shoulder width, 90 degrees, touch toes. I managed to pull 25. I just can’t get that low without bending forward (yet!) This left me with a score of Lvl 2/25.

Still thinking I have it easy?
And wait till you see next weeks line-up!

Weigh ins next week too – and you know what – I am honestly EXCITED! Who would’ve thought I’d EVER be excited about jumping on scales!

ABBBC Wk 1 WrapUp

Soooooo .. Wrapping up the first week (even though I’m a day into the next week!)

Only 2 sessions this week! I think the universe went easy on me to lull me into a false sense of security!!

Monday was a public holiday, so training took a holiday too.
I made it to the Tuesday and Thursday PM sessions, with every intention of doing the Saturday AM session before being rained out.

Tuesday being the first session, all of us Newbies went through different toning exercises (squats, push-ups, lifts etc) to ensure our technique is correct, and therefore get the most out of our reps.

3 lessons learnt that session – I can do squats, I can not for the life of me do push-ups (yet!) and my butt is really sore the next day from lunges!

Thursday was the DEATH BY CARDIO challenge.
Oh. Dear. God!
For someone who has no cardio whatsoever, I thought I was going to die!

It consisted of me doing 20 elbow-to-knee crunches, then run about 250m to the next station, 10 of those “jump up, jump out” exercises (no idea what they’re called), another 250m run, 30 mountain climbs and another 250m run back to the crunches.
REPEAT 5 TIMES! ARGHHH!

I did it in 25mins flat!
Which is pathetic by most standards, but I was so pleased with myself – I thought it’d take me the whole hour!!

I ran the first 2 laps, half jogged the third, and was walking by the end.
My goal is to be at a point where I can at least jog the whole challenge when it comes back around in 3 weeks time..

From Wk 2 I want to be smashing 4 sessions a week – Monday AM, Tues PM, Thurs PM and Fri AM (possibly Saturday AM instead depending on babysitter availability).

Bring it!

Top photo is my first progress pic.
Below photo is my measurements and weigh-in calculations.

Weigh-Ins are done every odd week of the challenge (Wk 1,3,5,7,9,11) but you won’t see another progress photo of me now until Wk 6!
